1408

"We've only just begun...to live..."

That's just a simple lyrics from that famous song from The Carpenters. Very inspiring, very encouraging, very melodic. But after watching 1408, it became very creepy!

John Cusack did a very disturbing but genuinely impressive portrayal of Michael Enslin, an author and the hero of Stephen King's short story.

Scouring the country, anywhere from cheap Orlando vacation rental homes to the most expensive hotels, skeptic Enslin embarked in a journey in search for the creepiest places. Though he was known for publishing books that tell tales of horror, Enslin never encountered a ghost.

Until he checked in at Dolphin Hotel's room 1408.

The whole movie revolved around Enslin's battle with himself and some dark memories of his past while inside 1408, a restricted room at New York's Dolphin Hotel. With cautious warning from the hotel manager, played by Samuel L. Jackson, Cusack's character insisted that he was the man with no fear and can take anything the infamous room has to offer.

Enslin had been warned that nobody lasts for an hour in 1408. The famous song of The Carpenters signaled the start of terror as the room becomes haunted with every tick of the clock. I was definitely holding my breath on some of the scenes but the movie did not really focus on scaring the audience, but more on being involved with Cusack's character.

My favorite part of the movie was definitely the shocking ending.

I give this movie 4 stars.
