Cool Inferno

I was in it last night.

It was quite an experience being in a small room where sound waves slaps deep into your skin and erasing all the stress that you’ve had after a long week.

My kudos goes to Terno Recordings for yet another successful Terno Inferno last night at Cafe Saguijo. Last night was extra-special as the event also served as the launching of Team Manila’s limited edition Terno Recordings Shirts.

TeamManilaTernoCollab

Ang Bandang Shirley started the night and played a couple of songs. Three of its band members weren’t present and had three a guest sessionist instead. The three guest band members sessionist played with their drummer and one of the band’s lead vocalist, Owel. I had the pleasure of finally meeting Owel last night because of Mayee. I often see him at the Greenbelt walkway during lunch break. I asked him about it and he said that his girlfriend used to work for Kate Torralba’s shop at Greenbelt 5. Now, I can at least say hi to him if ever I’ll see him again at the walkway. :)

Aside from Owel, Mayee also introduced me to her friends’ Karen and John. They’re both really nice. We had the chance to bond and chat a bit in between bands last night. Karen, John and I decided to stay outside of the venue and only went inside during Shirley, Dharma and Sago’s set. I learned from Karen that there are a variety of jobs one can apply to when you majored in International Studies. You can be a flight attendant, an ambassador, manage an international hotel etc. She’s an incoming senior sophomore and is really excited to work overseas soon. John, on the other hand, is busy managing their family business. It was really nice of him to buy me, Mayee and Karen drinks before Up Dharma Down’s set. The four of us had a blast singing along during Dharma’s set.

I tried my luck and shoot a couple of pictures last night using my MotoV3i phone.

It was 3am when the four of us decided to leave Saguijo. I reached home around 4:30 am.

Oh by the way, the limited edition Terno Recordings shirts are now available in selected Team Manila stores around the Metro at Php550 a pop.

Boots?

UGG Australia has the cutest boots! They’ll be perfect since rainy season really came in early (?). Days are becoming more about the drizzle and less and less about the sizzle. Now, I sound like a hip-hop wannabe after reading what I just wrote. Haha.

Anyways, good morning, good morning! Been up since 7am, and have been in front of the computer for the past hour doing random browsing, liking and disliking (though Facebook doesn’t have that option just yet…I do the unliking thing in my head) friend’s status messages, downloading software updates and playing with Chase and Tutets in between. Busy, eh?

Speaking of Tutets and Chase, I think its time I give ‘em their breakfast first before I continue blogging.

Be back in a bit. :)

Yin Yang

If you're in happy mood yesterday, expect the next day to be not-so-good.

Still, its a great day today. I love the weather. Bed weather, as they fondly call it. The heat was unbearable a few days before, but for the past two days its a bit sunny in the morning and becoming more chilly in the afternoon. I hope it will continue until the end of this week. Medyo hassle sa pag-byahe because the roads are slippery, but the cool airy weather lessens the day's stress a bit. IMHO.

My friend Mayee and I had a Twitter ice cream date yesterday at Fiorgellato. Twitter date: I sent the invite and she replied via Twitter.

It's weird that everyone seemed to be popping here and there at Twitter after that famous Ashton Vs. CNN Twitter fight at Oprah last week.

Anyways, back to the ice cream date, Mayee and I feasted on two scoops of ice cream and a medium-sized cookie. It's my treat for her since she aced her grades this sem and is a part of the term's Dean's List. Woohoo! Well, she's not aware of that...hehe. We had fun eating the chocolate-and-pistachio combo while chatting away and planning our next gig, which will be this Saturday's Terno Inferno at Saguijo :D I'll be posting about the gig details in the coming days. This Saturday's gig is extra special that's why Mayee and I are both excited to go.

So there. I'm signing-off for now. Maybe post some in Twitter a bit.

Goodnight :P

Severus Snape Steals The Stage

This two-minute clip definitely made my week.

Maid Of Honor

Tita Lolet dropped by yesterday and updated my mom about their sister's wedding preparations. I think we'll be visiting a boutique later today to check out dresses for the wedding.

I haven't seen and talked to Tita Maan (the one getting married) for the longest time. I'm wondering if she and her future husband had some term life insurance quote and other future financial plans. Planning is important right? Anyways, the last time I saw her was two weeks ago when all my aunts, uncles and cousins from my mother side had lunch here at home. My father cooked nilagang baboy and Ate Liza brought relyenong bangus. Perfect combo!

Looking forward to the boutique trip later today.

When Stamps Were Cool

I was reading Twitter posts and came across John Mayer's, talking about how he "laments the loss of fan mails because of tech age". I am not entirely sure if Mr. Mayer meant snail mails, but reading his post reminded me that I’ve had this phase where writing letters was part of my weekly routine. I was a snail mail addict, writing tons of letters to a lot of people almost every day. A shiny silver box housed all the evidence of that phase. Covered with dust, I pulled the box from the top my cabinet and found a few I've saved before we moved in to our new address eight years ago.

Writing the letter in a scented stationery or pieces of intermediate paper, neatly folding the pages, carefully placing it inside an envelop (I often use the Air Mail ones because I am afraid that my letter would get lost if I use the envelops that comes with the stationery set :P), writing the addressee’s details at the back of the envelop, the 30-minute travel from our house to the post office, buying stamps, licking the back of the stamp and sticking it at the upper right-hand corner of the back of the envelop, and finally putting your letter into the post office’s big mail box are all part of the snail mail madness. Hearing that subtle thud my envelops make when they hit the corners of the mail box gives me this unexplained happiness knowing that I would eventually receive replies from my pen pals soon.

Letters from my friends usually arrive during the start of the week. One from the bunch of envelopes would normally be a newsletter or a postcard from 5 and Up, while the rest were replies from the friends I’ve made from the summer writing workshop. Our house would always be empty by 9am since my mom, me and my brothers all went to school and my dad’s off to work so I asked my cousin, who lives next door, to watch out for mr. post man for me. My cousin, who gladly accepted the task, would hand in 3 to 6 letters each week. It was fun reading these letters after a busy and sometimes stressful day from school. I immediately would start writing replies after I read the letters two to three times. The replies would be ready by Wednesday and the letters would be on its way to its recipients by Saturday morning.

The exchange of penned letters with my pals lasted for two years. I cannot recall who stopped writing who. I outgrew the enthusiasm to write letters, and eventually my pen pals did too.

I spent my afternoon reading the salvaged letters one by one. I noticed that the topics that we talked about were so mundane that you can sum it up into a paragraph with five sentence instead of  five sheets. But that’s what made it fun. How the budding writers that we were played with words to describe how our day was, what worries us and what made us giggle.

Now I am thinking of writing to these people again...see what happens ;)

Abu

I, together with my brothers, will be watching Aladdin in a while. My father's fixing the tv stand so we might use the laptop to watch this one. We've been having a series of movie marathon since Monday. We've had movies from the 80s these past few days, and now we've decided to watch our favorite Disney movies with the remaining days (or day) of the looooong vacation.

Aunt Memoirs

Mama told me that she volunteered me to be the official photographer for her youngest sister’s wedding. That’s before she told me that my Aunt wanted me to be her Maid Of Honor.

I am both thrilled and sort of torn after hearing this. You see, I’ve never been asked to be someone’s Maid Of Honor before. Let alone be an official photographer for a huge event.

To give you a little background about the bride-to-be, Tita Maan is my favorite aunt. The coolest. She’s a huge Eraserheads and Ely Buendia fan. And yes, you’ve guessed it, she’s the one who introduced me to the foursome’s music. My mother thought Eraserhead’s music was too loud for a then ten-year-old girl like me. But my Tita Maan insisted and eventually convinced my mom that it is indeed cool and worth listening to. I remember how thrilled my Tita was when she shared meeting Ely and the rest of the band for the first time at a gig in Mayrics. Dinayo pa talaga nya. I think that was during the release of the Sticker Happy album. She’s already 18 years old that time, so ok nang mag-lamyerda ika nga.

I never dreaded high school because of her. I remember asking my mom when will be the time I can wear the same uniform as Tita Maan’s. She never was the popular girl, and she does not belong to the popular crowd either. But she enjoyed school and the company of her few chosen friends the same as any popular girl would have. Seeing her every afternoon after school whenever I visit my mom at the faculty room, all excited to share how her day was made me admire her as a student. I often hear my mom being so proud of her accomplishments for the day because she always aced her exams and projects.

College year wasn’t as good as her high school year though. Having to deal with the worst professors and accusing her of something that she did not do was a huge blow for her. Well I think that was meant to happen, for I and my other cousins who look up to her will not be able to know the Tita Maan that we know today. The strong, passionate and caring Aunt that we know. She continued her life, found the best job, and is now getting married.

Her to-be-hubby is one lucky man.

Now to whether I’ll be among the ladies walking down the aisle on my Tita’s big day or the one who will be a shutterbug and capture this new phase in her life, I’ve decided to do the latter. Taking pictures is a natural high for me. The mere act of taking pictures and being able to express myself using the camera is the best feeling. I told my mom it would be a challenge to take great pictures with our point-and-shoot camera. Then she told me that she would ask their school’s media department if they can lend us their DSLR for a day or two, which made me more excited and wish that May 23 is a day away.

Struggle

Blogging and thinking of something to write about have been a struggle for me lately. It's pretty obvious, judging from the series of short posts I've been writing for the past so so weeks. Checked my Inbox today and found out that room chandeliers is among the things that I needed to bust my brains off and share a few thoughts on. I have a few ideas simmering, with two or three notes to start with.

Lame. I am the lamest.

4:44 AM

It's April 2. April Fool's Day did happen.

And I am the only one laughing.
